Please let us know if your pets have any requirements such as medications or a special diet. We want your pets to be happy and comfortable while staying with us, so we will feed your pets according to your instructions. We provide food, water and bedding, but you are welcomed to bring your own if you like.

While your pets are with us, we will do everything we can to give them a good visit. We promise you we will take the very best care of your pets so you don’t have to worry about them. Enjoy your vacation or time away.

If you are concerned about boarding your pets, don’t hesitate to set up a time to visit our hospital and look around our boarding facility. We can also discuss our boarding policies and answer any questions or address any concerns you may have.

We have 2 options for boarding- regular kennel boarding, and luxury suite boarding. Our regular kennels are 3 feet by 7 feet and are separated from each other by block walls. Regular boarders are let out to potty and fed twice daily.

Our luxury suites are designed with fear-free principles in mind. They are insulated for sound, painted with fun themes, have non-slip flooring, and enhanced LED lighting to eliminate noise associated with traditional lighting. Each room has a camera for owners to check in on their fur babies 24/7. Guests also receive several potty breaks throughout the day versus just morning and evening let outs in our regular runs.

Contact us today if you have any questions, concerns, or would like to schedule a visit to our facility.

Day Boarding

Here at Monticello Animal Clinic, we are pleased to offer day boarding for our patients.

We are here to help owners and their pets as much as possible. That is one of the reasons that we offer day boarding.

We understand that many people have to work full-time jobs where they work long hours. Most hate leaving their pet home alone for hours at a time. For this reason, they can bring their pet to us where he or she can get plenty of love and attention while they are at work.

These pets should definitely not be left alone due to the extra attention needed and we are pleased to be able to help. We are fully able to care for post-surgical patients and we will do anything that you pet needs.

If you have any questions about our day boarding, feel free to contact us today at .

Dentistry

Dental care is vital to the overall health of any pet. Dental disease can lead to health issues with the heart, liver, and kidneys, and can affect the entire body through the bloodstream. In fact, 80 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats over three years of age suffer from some form of dental disease, making it the most common pet health issue among our pet population.

In spite of these disturbing facts, many pet owners are not aware of the importance of dental care to their pet’s health. There are a lot of different ways to improve your pet’s dental hygiene, including home brushing, dental chews, and regular inspection.

The most effective way to protect your pet from dental disease is through professional cleanings. We perform thorough cleanings, including the area beneath the gums that you can’t see or access at home.

We offer dental cleanings with x-ray at our Monticello location while we have not yet expanded our dentistry to radiographs at all locations. Using x rays, we are able to identify issues that may be causing pain and discomfort to our pets that cannot be seen on the surface level. We also are one of the only clinics in our area that provide surgical extractions for pets. By using this method of extraction, we are able to remove teeth and roots in full creating a less painful and less traumatic experience for our patients.

Digital Radiology

At Monticello Animal Clinic in Monticello, we are proud to be on the cutting edge of medical technology. Radiology is a technique and diagnostic tool we use to look inside the body in a completely non-invasive way. X-rays allow us to create images of all the body’s organs. In other words, the use of radiology gives us a view of the internal organs in your pet’s body that we otherwise could not see. It’s an important diagnostic tool that helps veterinarians detect and prevent illnesses.

The images produced by digital radiography are of much better quality than film radiographs and can be manipulated digitally, giving us the best possible radiographic information to help us diagnose your pets.

The use of radiology is safe, and our entire staff is highly trained. It is our goal to provide your pets with the highest level of medical care possible, and this is just one of the many ways we achieve that.

External Skeletal Fixation

Monticello Animal Clinic is proud to announce we now offer External Skeletal Fixation (ESF). We are the first and only clinic offering this type of surgical intervention in Southeast Arkansas. ESF is a surgical procedure that is used to stabilize fractures to long bones such as the radius, tibia, femur and humerus. ESF is a good alternative to casting or splinting, and is used in cases when other internal fixations are not possible. ESF is especially useful in crushed fractures with no load sharing ability. After the fracture is placed back into a normal anatomical position, pins are placed in the bone and external rods are attached to stabilize the fracture for healing. ESF typically stays in place 6-12 weeks depending on the nature of the fracture, fracture site and the age of the patient. We are excited about having ESF as another tool in treating broken limbs.

Orthopedic Services

Orthopedic Services

Whether positive results are found with conservative medical treatment or require broken bone reconstruction, our goal is to restore your companion to optimal health and comfort. The first step in a traumatic event is to assess the injured patient and preserve life with a complete exam that includes the major organ systems such as heart, lungs, brain, and so forth. Once these systems have been assessed and treated appropriately, ‘quality of life’ becomes the priority. Many times this involves stabilizing broken bones, repairing torn or damaged ligaments, or replacing dislocated joints. This is where Monticello Animal Clinic’s orthopedic team can assist in restoring your companion’s ‘quality of life’.

Surgical cases involve three important phases:

Phase 1) Planning
Proper planning is extremely important in fracture repair medicine. Frequently our team will spend as much time planning a procedure as performing the surgery. Digital radiographs and special computer software are used to make decisions on stabilization techniques such as internal or external fixation, use of orthopedic screws, plates, wire, pins, and bone grafting. This is also the time in which the team will discuss operating room (OR) set-up, equipment needed, and patient positioning for the surgery.

Phase 2) Surgical Procedure
Once the patient is anesthetized, monitoring is very important. The patient’s blood pressure, temperature, carbon dioxide levels, respiration rate, and pulse oximetry are all closely observed for changes that could indicate a problem. The OR is closed off from the remainder of the clinic and has a designated ventilation system. There are typically 3 people in the OR during surgery: the physician, physician’s surgical nurse, and a nurse observing and recording the patient’s vital signs. The surgery is performed while the patient is receiving preemptive pain medications, intravenous antibiotics, and fluid therapy.

Phase 3) Post-operative
Immediately after surgery additional radiographs will be taken to insure fracture repair goals have been met. Patient is monitored during the recovery phase to maintain pain control and body temperature. Owners are given specific instructions on how to care for patients at home. Owners are asked to bring patients back periodically for recheck appointments, and are given a list of things to look for in the event of any complication.

The Monticello Animal Clinic Orthopedic Team is excited to offer a great deal of experience and skill in treating a wide variety of long bone and hip fracture repairs. Most frequently lameness and fracture repair appointments are made on a drop-off basis. In general, sedation is needed to evaluate and obtain quality radiographs for surgical planning.

Laser Therapy

Laser Therapy

We are excited to be able to provide our patients with laser therapy as an additional treatment option for pain and inflammation as well as post operative healing. Laser therapy is the use of specific wavelengths of light to create therapeutic effects such as improved healing time, pain reduction, increased circulation, and decreased swelling. During each painless treatment laser energy increases circulation, drawing water, oxygen and nutrients to the damaged area. This creates an optimal healing environment that reduces inflammation, swelling, muscle spasms, stiffness, and pain. As the injured area returns to normal, function is restored and pain is relieved. Laser therapy is proven to biostimulant tissue repair and growth. The laser accelerates the healing process by decreasing inflammation, pain, and scar tissue formation. In the management of chronic pain, class IV laser therapy can provide dramatic results; it is painless and virtually free of side effects.

Common conditions treated with K-Laser:

  • Soft tissue injuries
  • Postorthopedic
  • Wound healing
  • Osteoarthritis and joint pain
  • Hip Dysplasia
  • Burns
  • Postsurgical pain
  • Westie lung disease

Reproduction

Reproduction

While natural insemination is typically the preferred method of breeding, certain limitations present the need for artificial insemination. These circumstances include proximity between the bitch and the stud, the quality of semen, the fertility of the bitch and the behavioral challenges that prevent natural breeding from occurring, among other factors.

What is TCI?
Transcervical insemination is a method to deliver sperm directly into the uterus, bypassing the cervix. The advantage is that the semen is deposited exactly where it needs to be – close to the eggs it will need to fertilize. This is important because most of the sperm may not penetrate the cervix after a routine vaginal insemination, and this can be especially true for frozen or chilled semen. Compared to surgical insemination, added advantages include no general anesthesia and no postoperative inflammation, suture reactions, etc.

How is TCI performed?
Bitches are typically inseminated in a standing position without sedation. An endoscope is used to visualize the cervix and administer the semen into the uterus with a catheter. The procedure is painless and usually takes 15-30 minutes.

Planning a TCI
Transcervical insemination as well as with any other breeding method, it is important to track your dog’s ovulation cycle with progesterone to identify the optimal time to schedule the procedure in order to maximize conception rates. You must also plan the sourcing of the semen in advance. Semen type is limited to certain insemination methods.

Female Services:

  • In-House Progesterone Testing
  • Deep Vaginal Artificial Insemination
  • Transcervical Insemination
  • Pregnancy Ultrasound
  • Pregnancy Radiographs
  • Cesarean

Male Services:

  • Semen Collection and Evaluation
